Queste linee sono stilate e suggerite tenendo conto con scrupolo della straordinaria ricchezza qualitativa dei cibi disponibili, delle condizioni climatiche, della spaventosa tendenza al sovrappeso, degli effettivi bisogni energetici di una popolazione sempre più sedentaria. Saggiamente viene suggerito di saltellare il più possibile tra tutto quanto è disponibile come cibo, di non mortificarsi in rinunce poco giustificabili e di non abbandonarsi a diete improbabili, ma di attenersi a quanto la tradizione mediterranea ( ormai riconosciuta in tutto il mondo come la più sana ) prevede :  55/60 % di carboidrati complessi, 10/15 % di proteine, 25/30% di grassi. Il tutto senza rinunciare affatto al piacere della tavola, ma regolando le quantità al fabbisogno effettivo. Da notare la grande rilevanza che viene attribuita ad una regolare, anche se blanda, attività fisica.
